Voice Over Internet Protocol Technology

VoiP PhoneFor 100 years, phone calls were only made using the telephone system offered by local phone companies. But nowadays, a new technology has emerged that allows people to make telephone calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of a regular telephone. This technology is called Voice over Internet Protocol or VoIP and it has been around for less than 10 years. VoIP also called Internet telephony or IP technology includes many forms of communications such as audio, video and data across different types of networks.

Services offer this technology in different ways. Some of them enable a person to call another person if they have the same service using VOIP, but others allow a person to call anyone who has a telephone, local, long distance, mobile and international number. VOIP may work either over the computer or a special VOIP phone or using a regular phone through an adapter.
